1931 TRUMPY
WOOD MOTOR YACHT

This 50 ft. wooden boat, the Chicora, was built at the end of the Great Depression by the Trumpy Bros. Company. The art and science of building wooden boats is dwindling from current knowlege and we are lucky to have such a fine example. The Chicora is maintained at a port in Wisconsin. She is oak planked with a mahogany interior, and has been slowly restored over the past 10 years. She operates on twin 140hp diesels and sleeps 6 passengers.
The Chicora was built in Annapolis, MD, and was sailed near Washington D.C. and South Carolina until the '50s. She disappeared for a time, but 'resurfaced' a number of years later in Florida. Then, in 1975, she made passage from New York City through the Erie Canal into the Great Lakes and finally arrived in upper Wisconsin. She is photographed and saluted with every cruise.
